LISD Board Holds First Superintendent Search Special Meeting
On Wednesday, Nov. 19, the Lewisville ISD (LISD) Board of Trustees held its first in a series of special meetings to discuss next steps in the superintendent search process. During this meeting, the Board formally accepted Superintendent Dr. Stephen F. Waddell’s letter of retirement, effective Jan. 31, 2015.

Fourth graders discover their passions during genius hour. F. Scott Fitzgerald once said, “Genius is the ability to put into effect what is on your mind.”

Fourth graders at Garden Ridge Elementary are getting the opportunity to explore what’s really on their mind thanks to the grade’s decision to implement Genius Hour – a movement that allows students to explore their own passions and encourages creativity in the classroom.
LISD’s 1:X Initiative Receives International Recognition
Apple recently named Lewisville ISD’s (LISD) 1:X™ initiative as an Apple Distinguished Program for 2014-2016, a two-year designation. With a 30-year history of investing in creative approaches to education, Apple’s Distinguished Program award recipients are recognized internationally for setting the bar for high-quality, innovative education programs. Apple qualifies the award as non-competitive. LISD has researched past recipients of this award and there has been approximately three Texas Apple Distinguished Programs since 2007.

Dear Lewisville ISD Community: It is with a sad heart that I announce my retirement effective January 31, 2015. I have had a great career beginning in 1980. I have loved every minute of it. I want to thank the administrators and boards that have given me the chance to serve their children: Splendora, Lancaster, Sunray, Tuloso-Midway, Birdville and Lewisville. UPDATE: LISD Announces 16th Annual Veterans Day Celebration
Due to the weather forecast for Tuesday morning, Nov. 11, LISD’s Public Veterans Day Celebration will be held indoors at Marcus High School, located at 5707 Morriss Road in Flower Mound (a map with directions is attached). The public event will still begin at 10:30 a.m. and reserved parking is available.

LISD’s Veterans Day Recognition Breakfast will still be held at Timber Creek Elementary (1900 Timber Creek Road, Flower Mound) at 9:30 a.m. A shuttle bus service will be provided from Timber Creek Elementary to MHS.

Update iPads to iOS 8 at Earliest Convenience
Dear LISD Parents,

Apple released iOS 8 for the iPad on Wednesday, Sept. 17. LISD’s Technology Department has tested the update and found no issues. They request that all students and staff upgrade their iPad to iOS 8.0.2 at their earliest convenience.

Flower Mound Rotary Fest, Neon Night 5K – Oct. 4
The Flower Mound Rotary and Lewisville ISD West Zone schools are proud to host the second annual Neon Night 5K and Festival at Heritage Park in Flower Mound on Oct. 4 from 4-9 p.m. The run will begin at 7 p.m. This fun community event offers free activities for children, live music, a washer tournament and a Neon Night 5K!
iPad Notice: iOS 8 Upgrade
Apple is releasing iOS 8 for the iPad on Wednesday, Sept. 17. Please do not upgrade any Lewisville ISD-issued iPads until the Technology Department tests the new version and approves the upgrade. This should take place within 24-36 hours of the iOS 8 release. An updated notice will be sent following Technology's testing of iOS 8.
